Seattle's Small Businesses Respond to COVID-19

Getting creative in times of adversity- how small businesses in Seattle are weathering the COVID-19 economic storm.

April 1, 202010 min read
Since starting the We Got This campaign, we have continuously been inspired and impressed by the resilience, creativity, and sense of community that small businesses are showing across the country. Whether its collecting virtual tips for out of work hospitality employees or re-positioning what were once primarily brick and mortar stores to become eCommerce businesses.

Along with partnering with small businesses and selling We Got This shirts, we want to use this platform to share stories that have inspired us in the communities that we love. Up first we visit Seattle, where social distancing has forced these businesses to pivot their marketing strategies to a new kind of customer.

Old Stove

Providing to-go fare for hungry and thirsty quarantined Seattlites
Old Stove Brewing and Market Front located in the heart of downtown Seattle has seen a bit of a shift since Washington Governor, Jay Inslee, ordered a temporary shut down of all restaurants and bars city-wide earlier this month. They’ve moved in-house dining to take out orders and beers on tap to beer and wine to-go. Featuring a curated quarantine menu with beer and food specials, Old Stove has utilized the power of their 6000 + following on social media to market their adjusted availability. They’ve pinned their to-go menu with current tap offerings to the top of their Instagram feed, updated their Facebook with current menus and gotten the word out to their followers on Twitter. You can support them if you’re in the area by grabbing tonight’s meal at Old Stove!

San Juan Seltzer

Offering a little bonus to boost gift card purchases
The good people over at San Juan Seltzery are adding a little something extra for customers to enjoy once life goes back to normal. To incentivize customers to purchase gift cards, they’re offering discounts of 10% on all amounts or 20% on orders over $200. The in-house dining is currently closed but San Juan Seltery’s sister restaurants are offering take out service across the Seattle metro area. And lastly, they’re sponsoring virtual social hours on Instagram Live to keep their community connected. If you’re over 21, pick up some San Juan Seltzer for your next virtual happy hour and toast these fine folks on a job well done. Cheers!
